If you can't get the correct tool, or find a friendly shop to swap the spring for you, go get yourself some heavy duty cable-ties - the 8-10mm wide ones...

A few of those compressing some of the coils will be enough to slip the collar up and allow you to remove the big circlip-type-thing holding it all together.

Only compress 3 or 4 coils with each cable-tie, and pull them tight evenly.

Andy.

andy i have tried this and ended up chipping the paint all over the sp spring not a problem as the R one is going on, but if i am honest doing it without the proper tools scares the living crap out of me Crying or Very sad , i keep thinking at any second its gonna pull my fingers off on the way to bouncing off my face. spring

Hi monkey,

Couldn't you just buy a spring compressor?

Funnily enough I swaped the rear spring on the TRX on Sunday, spring compressor was £10 from a motor factors, it wouldn't fit over the spring properly for the damper body so I chopped the ends of the spring compressor hooks off for clearance.
Job took minutes.

Rear Spring

Tue Jan 18, 2005 5:46 pm » Post: #7 » Download Post

Hi Monkey.

Yep, just a bog standard car spring compressor, got mine from the local motor factor's.
Like I say, I needed to chop a bit off each "hook" to save chewing up the damper body. Otherwise dead simple!

Regards Phil
