General Help

Thu May 22, 2008 8:58 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi there, I'm new to this forum, and to owning an NSR and am after some guidance Laughing
First off, I have the chance to buy an MC16, not in great condition but it will make a nice summer project. I was just wondering if it possible to fit MC18 bodywork on an MC16 as I think it would look just that little bit better. Also is it possible to fit an electric start instead of the old-school kickstart, or will this just add unecessary weight etc?
Any help is much appreciated. Very Happy
Ali

I have seen a 16 with 21 bodywork, but not 18
I did look at fitting 18 bodywork to a 16 once. It looked like the lowers were almost the same. The problem comes when fitting the top cowl. The 16 stay is a lot taller than the 18, and from what I can remember an 18 stay is not a simple bolt on job.
The tail should fit, may need the sub frame as well.
As for electric start, NOOOOOOOOO.

Hi Ali and welcome to the forum...

Why don't you try to restore it to it's original shape...? I think that way it will be more cool... It's nice to see old bikes on the original shape...

Cheers
Michael

Thanks for the advice, and you have convinced me. Nothing beats an original I suppose and that bike looks pretty sweet. Can't wait for exams to finish so I can get to work on my bike Very Happy!!

Hi there fellow student I have owned a mc16 blue for 2 years now. Wow that went fast, I am studying in Europe Hungary parts and stuff is not easy to come by here but I try my best over the internet. I got the paint job done not so long ago and had the wind shield changed to a nice new clear one. What you should watch out for is the rust in the tank! This is a 20 year old bike; if that rust gets in the engine then it’s not that good. Not so long ago I had a top-end rebuild. Best of luck!

If you want to do something different, maybe paint it like Mamola's or Spencers NS500 racers. The look is very similar to the MC16. Sorry only have die cast model photo.
