Do break pads have a shelf life ?

I put some decent pads in the front about 4 years ago. Tossed the bike and its take this long to get is back on the road again

They still feel strong, i am just curious to whether they 'go off' over time after you have started using them (like tyres) or are they unaffected ?

Never personally had a problem. I've left my bike standing for a year or more at times whilst travelling abroad, and even come back and fired it up on the same fuel a few times!

I'd be more worried about the condition of the tyres.

Never even suffered gunge in the float bowls either. Maybe something to do with only using good quality fuel... maybe just lucky.

If your worried that maybe a film of grime and poo have covered the pad surface then pop them out and give them a quick sand/de-glaze all should then be fine.

Youn soon know quick enough if your gun it into a roundabout and all you see is sky and clouds

In my experience sometimes the pad material can seperate from the metal plate. This usualy happens when the pads have started to corrode with age. If unsure just pop the pads out and check the pad material isnt lifting from the metal, if they seem ok just rough them up with some emery cloth and fit them back in.
