You don't want to be using them on the NSR. The metal back-plate will play havoc with the carburetion.

Any pod filters with the metal plate on the end cause all sorts of carburation issues. If you're gonna use pod filters then use all foam.

The metal plate causes a bounce back of the waves through the engine so the carb tries to 'double jet' as it were. Through them away and grab yourself 2hp.

We've even found the foam filters can hold the motors back alittle. I think this is more due to the filter touching the bell mouth though rather than the foam itself.

Inlet air flow must be as smooth and as uninterrupted as possible for maximum flow. Anything in the way causes massive turbulence and ultimately affects power.

We've still had your R5K and my MC21 making good power and smooth carburetion with foam pods though Steve. Mine was getting on towards 68hp with the filters fitted still at one point.

The foam ones will certainly do the job for the majority who want the inlet nice and loud, fairly free-flowing, but with some semblance of filtration. I think they perform equally as well as a modified airbox, if not better, give better/easier access to the carbs, and most important of all, look and sound better! Very Happy

As you all can see, Andy's a major lover of intake roar Very Happy

If you're gonna go with filters, then foamies are the best choice, and the bigger the better.

Air Filters

Sat Jul 07, 2007 5:18 am » Post: #10 » Download Post

Picked up the mc18 motor, dad ended up stopping to look at a new car, walzed down to Team Moto at moorooka (busy as), picked up a pair of uni filters,
1 x 52mm
1 x 55mm
hoping that should help with the smaller crankcase inlets,
thinking of getting a jha race carby protector, the underside protector with vents holes onside for addition of road speed pressure air, thinking its well worth while.

too much matting for a homemade airbox. would have to be 10 layers thick to have prevented warping at idle,

Thanks for preventing a carby nightmare with Elm Street.
