Top cylinder wont fire. GRRRRRRRRR **EDIT** Now FIXED

Sun Jul 09, 2006 10:38 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Went to fire the bike up thismorning because its not run for a week or 2 and the top cylinder refuses to fire.

I get a spark and have swapped the plugs around

It has compression

The plug is wet when I take it out

It ran spot on before it was last put away and its starting to piss me off now. Crying or Very sad

Is it just not firing on tickover?

Does it fire when you rev the bike up?

Sounds like you need to blow out the left carb if it won`t fire at all.

If it fires on reving, it`s either the pilot jet mucky or you need to balance the carbs to get an even tickover on both cylinders.

Hope this helps.

thats what happened to me also. Pull the carbs, and clean the jets (3 in each carb) be sure the carbs are fully seated in the boots when reinstalling.

got it to fire using a hot plug from the bottom, ran it for 10 min stopped it and it restarted ok, let it cool and it didnt restart.

I'm going to get some new plugs tomorrow, hopefully that'll sort it.

yes stripped them and gave the Crying or Very sad m a good clean out and it was no different.

To be fair I was using old plugs so I've bought some new plugs and will be trying them sunday.

Over the past 3 days or so I've been swapping the gearbox as one of the gear retaining clips disintegrated, but I'll keep you all posted althogh I really do hope its the plugs as I've tried most other things.

Right i've narrowed it down to one of the coils as when I swapped them the problem changed to the other cylinder. So now I need a coil asap.

Maybe. Check the connectors, as we've seen several that have corroded or opened up recently, and caused a loss of spark due to high resitance. It MAY be that by swapping you got a better connection, so just to be sure, check those spades are in tip top condition before you splash the cash. Wink

All connectors where cleaned, I even tried the pickups and in the process had a run in with a tosser neghbour Twisted Evil who thought 9:40 was an unreasonable time in the morning to be revving a 2 stroke with no airbox and race pipes, TOSSER.

Its definatly the coil dave (or dare I say it the pgm Shocked ), as I went to the local motor factors for some ht lead and caps, and whilst trying to screw the new lead into the coil I noticed that the threaded self tapper type connector in the coil would move in and out as if it had come loose inside the coil.

Oh. Well at least you tried. I think the NSR coil is the same as the MBT scooter if memory serves?

Have a butchers on Ebay too.

Sorry for the lesson in egg sucking! Wink

Mick,
Kaye, (monkey's wife) flitted into Donington today mid trackday and posted a couple to you, the one that's not got a plug cap definately does work (with a plug cap), the other does fire but I've not ridden the bike with it.

IF it solves your problem I believe a donation to the forum is in order (that's the Paypal icon to the left) Wink Very Happy

Gotta hate that! My neighbours didn't flinch when i ran in a camshaft in on a hi-po 351 cleveland with open pipes at 12.20am on a monday night Twisted Evil Laughing

On the topic of coils, I was told by an nsr wrecker that coils 'almost' never die on the nsr. Is this a fair comment?
