MC28 question..

Wed Apr 26, 2006 11:10 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

The bike is 100% stock. I have a set of tzmikes cans that I was going to put on my rgv which is down to the frame at the moment. So I just put them on the 28 and took it for a ride. It ran terrible. Would changing them affect the jetting Question

My understanding of expansion chambers and silencers is that they are designed from the factory to give you an optimised spread of power over all the rev range. They are designed as a compromise .By altering the length and diametre of any of its components will affect how the engine runs.

Im pretty certain there was a thread on here last year were someone had dynoed there RGV with Standard cans, No cans and I think some aftermarket ones as well .These all had a dramatic affect on the way power came in. Without the cans on there is a lot less back pressure so the motor was peaking at around 7000rpm .

I suspect if your cans are from another model they will have been tuned in length and diameter to that engine so this is probably why it runs poorly.

Define terrible. Too rich? Wouldn't rev? After all a spot too lean will just make it rev forever (well not for ever but rev far too well).
I'm quite surprised on a stock bike the cans alone made much difference at all, I've swapped std cans for 3rd party so called race cans on strokers berfore and seen nothing noteably change apart from a spot more noise, and it is just a spot as well.

I presume the bike runs fine in standard trim?

It is possible if it's totally standard (and thus jetted very very safely) and you live somewhere warm it's very rich as it is and the cans have allowed slightly better scavenging thus richening it up that bit more. After all the std '28 cans are the biggest 2 stroke cans ever.

Samk, They are the 250mm cans. I did have to open the mounting holes on the pipes up with a dremel about 2mm inwards on each hole. They look and sound great.
