What Honda REAR shocks fit the 21

Thu Apr 13, 2006 2:22 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Im looking to get a new rear shock for the NSR at some point, dose anyone know if other honda shocks fit? which models? a new ohlins is £450 for the NSR so if i can get a good secondhand honda shock and have it rebuilt id rather do that. Im sure some of them will share a shock, CBR400? NC30? anybody know? anybody fitted something else? Question

No worries, probably wont buy it unless I can confirm before hand that it will fit. I thought if it does fit i would have some competition from some guys from here!

Cheers

I'm sure that the CBR 600 shock mounts up OK. Not sure of the exact year, but it's been discused on the forum before.

After our conversaion today I forgot that I might be able to help you out...... got something at the back of cupboard that might fit.

welllll what I can tell you is the usual cheap upgrade for the NC29 is CBR600F3 shock, when I had my NC29 trackbike apart I compared the standard MC21 shock with my NC29/CBR600 Maxton shock and it looks very much the same but is a good inch longer, bearing in mind that the maxton raises the ride height quite a bit anyway if you fitted this shock to the MC21 it would lean so much from the ridiculous ride height I dont think it would rest on the side stand anymore.

Honda CBR F3 shock will work but you need one with ride hieght adjustment. I have a Fox CBRF3 on the mc-21. It will also fit on a MC-18 but it is about 1 inch longer than stock with the ride heigth adjuster all the way in, ok with a 17 inch rim. I did not fit the mc-21 with the CBR shock so I don't know what mods are needed. On the mc-18 the upper bushings needed to be norrowed and the hole need to be opened up.

There was a guy that sold a MC21 paint in West colors in the USA, he installed a Fox F3 shock, machined the width both ends of the shock and grind a little of the top mount of the frame for clearance of the top shock loop. That is the best I can remember. somewere there is a thread to the whole thing, he listed it in detail.

Question, is the F3 CBR600 shock a worthwhile upgrade? In fact, how does the standard mc21 handle with other shocks? Noticeable improvement>

the 1995 to present honda rs 125 shock is an option, but you need a tyga rear subframe or similer as the piggyback res goes where the battery is on the standard subframe/undertray,also needs a spring to suit but then you can have it done and modified to your weight anyway Cool

Nice fit. Thoygh I was trying to find out whether there is an advantage to fitting an f3 or rs shock other than the looks or poser points etc.
