Floating rear rotor

Hi Andy
I know you have a lot going on right now. I was wondering what ever happened to the rear disk you were working on. It looked like it was full floater Question

It was (er, is) but there are issues with it.

The main problem is that the full-floating bobbins touch the underside of the stock brake pads. We thought about machining a small amount off the bottom of the pad, but it could cause the pads to wear unevenly, and thus may affect the operation of the brake. As I use the rear brake a lot, I decided against this.

The rear disk as it stands, would be ideal in an F3 application where an "underslung" caliper is used in conjunction with a narrow-track RS250 disk.

So, at the moment, the full-floating rear disk is on the back burner I'm afraid.

I bet no-one said that to Mick when he asked for a thumb operated rear on the 500! Smile

Did anyone ever watch Scott Russel on the Krapperzaki in the wet? Extreme use of the rear brake on the way out of the corner to control wheel spin.

I'm a front brake man, but I do use the rear a lot on the motard cos the stroker 500 doesn't offer a lot of engine brake so I use it to 'back it in'.

Also got the hang of using it for traction and wheelie control on a big hp GSXR1000 I tested in China. Made a big difference, but took a few laps to get the suss.

Still couldn't hold a candle to Doohan mind!
