NSR250 MC18 question

Thu Feb 09, 2006 2:37 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

hi
I was told the MC18 Stator and ECU II is just same as early model RS250, was that correct? I remember one of MC18 model did not limit the speed, was that the one?

I agree.

The earlier model NSR's (1987, 1988) had the CDI's and PV box seperate like the earlier RS's, and I have heard that the RC valve controller can be grafted to the RS250 CDI's.

But I could have heard wrong

And you did!

The early RS electronics look nothing like NSR electronics, unless you have 1988/89 F3 parts...

1990 F3 parts look similar to later RS (PGM-II) parts.

Hmmm. I've seen a 1988 F3 NSR. It had a dry clutch, which I assume is a 1989 unit. It had the flash electrics, Mega ported cylinders, TDC heads, HRC airbox and pipes (with the special linkage rod).
Also had SP front suspension off an '89 MC18 or a MC21, alloy lower triple clamp, and F3 shock-it has the ride height adjuster as well as preload, rebound and compression.

What are the ratios likely to be in the gearbox if its an F3 unit? Anything to look for?

Cos I got the dry clutch bottom end out of it when they blew it up, and I was told it was a special close ratio box...

Probably just wanna send that mission to me for checking. I doubt that it's anything special so I'll dispose of it carefully for you. Twisted Evil

Look at the location dogs on the gears. If they're machined undercut then it's an F3 box. If they're cheesy, rounded off non undercut dogs then it's nothing flash.

Or you could count the teeth and work it all out so that you know tha ratios, speeds at various rpm etc etc and then can cross reference to various model NSRs to see the difference. You can also amaze people telling them all about it.

That's what I'd do.

The gear locating dogs are undercut.

It seems I have come into the posession of an FIII gearbox

Twisted Evil SUCK IT DOWN Twisted Evil

How about that. And to think- I was going to throw that dusty, old, broken SP bottom end in when I sell my NSR. Which will hopefully be happening tonight.

I'm just glad I didn't put it in the offer this time!!

And I just sold my MC18 racebike. Now to get the MC16 I've been robbing for bits going again...

This means that I have a not-in-use SP bottom end with a FIII transmission sitting at home gathering dust.

Hello.
