Chain riveting?

Chain riveting?

Whilst im sorting my bike out ive fitted new sprokets and chain, I used a grinder to remove the old one Twisted Evil and have now fitted the new chain! ive pressed on the link BUT i dont have a tool to rivet the links up! anybody have a idea how to do this? Iv seen the tools on ebay for £50 but its kinda lot of money for riveting a chain up? if needs must ill buy the tool but if any of you know if theres a seperate tool for this job could you be kind enough and point me in the right direction. basically you have to flatten the rivet. You can do this with a chisel if you are handy Twisted Evil
Make sure something is on the other side of the chain so you don't put lateral stress on it when doing so.

Or go to a bike shop and see if you can borrow the tool....they do that around here if they know you.

I used a grinder to take it off and you think im handy LOL Very Happy ahhhh,

But ill give it a go! Cool can i ask what you used at the back of the chain! whilst wacking yer new chain?

anyone else? used something else?

I use two hammers. A gurt biggun behind the chain, and a smaller more accurate one to swing at it. Been doing it that way for years. If you do the rivitting near a sprocket, the chain will flex less, though be carefull not to whack the teeth off your sprocket!

I prefer a big hammer and a REALLY BIG hammer! Best have a big screwdriver to hand too, then you can fix anything! Very Happy

If you need the tool I have 2 and you are welcome to borrow one.

That`s what I like to see, whack it with a big hammer!

I wouldn`t do it though, I bought the right tool cos I`m a big jessie!

A bike shop I knew used to do it this way all the time. They had a small bench vice they used to press the ends over with also. (Obviuosly it wasn`t bolted to a bench at the time)!

Personally, I think you`re all animals! Shocked
