MC21 engine number - why does mine say mc16?

I just bought an nsr250 mc21. However, I noticed the engine number begins with MC16E.

I just would like to be sure, does this mean it is an mc16 engine and not an mc21?

They all begin MC16. Nothing to worry about.

how do we tell which engine is which. mc16/mc18/mc21 and mc28.
what are the differences to look for.Helps for finding parts) Rolling Eyes

I would imagine whatever follws "MC16E-*********" could be matched up to the relevant bikes. Im sure theres a list somewhere with engine numbers that were assigned to a particular model, just as the frame numbers were!
