When was the 1st time you saw an NSR

As title states 'When was the 1st time you saw an NSR' and what made you want one?

The 1st time I saw one was in a magazine (Performance bikes I think? ) in about 1990 I was 16 and stuck with an MBX 50 at the time Embarassed .

They had an article about Jap market strokers which all seemed way better than the rubbish that we were getting at the time.

I'm certain it had an MC18SP in Grey 'TERRA RACING COLOURS' on the cover it certainly looked good and from that moment i wanted one.

The years went by and after owning many unreliable and costly 2 strokes I managed to get an MC16 (well 3 in fact but thats another story Very Happy ) but sadly they didn't live up to my dream so in the late summer i managed to get a very nice MC21 (Thanks again Monkey Wink)

which is the best and prettiest NSR in my opinion anyway Shocked it certainly rode how I'd imagined it would but was a little slower than I'd expected but that will be be getting sorted soon Wink

Sadly though I've only managed to ride it once this year and that was to bring it home Crying or Very sad

Well thats my story how about everybody else Question

I guess I saw them in PB and the like, but never really wanted one at the time they were avaliable new.

A few years ago I wanted to go club racing so went on the lookout for a 400. Couldn't afford one, so decided I'd have to buy a two stroke. Despite the RGV being the obvious choice, I don't like Suzuki's and knew the NSR was reputed to be the best of the bunch (for the models produced early '90s) so went hunting.

Miraculously one came up in Swindon within the week. I've had it since autumn 2000, raced it for two years, then crashed (on an FZR400) and stuffed my ankle in. Decided to put the NSR back on the road as it was in very good nick and fairly rare, so didn't wanna trash it. Bought an NC30 to race on, but have given it full time up as too expensive now.

The NSR is a toy, and is having a winter overhaul, so I can spend the whole of next summer enjoying it, not blowing it up and fixing it!

I saw my first NSR in an article in PB about the 1988 GP at Suzuka. It was a white/blue F3 MC16 with fluorescent green Japanese script all down the side of the fairing - everyone (including PB) went on a dayglo' Japanese script trip for months after that particular GP! They even sold an issue later with shocking pink Japanese script stickers on the cover!

I would've been 17 and riding an MBX125F at the time, and lusting after an NS125F! I knew from that day I wanted an NSR250 though.

Time went by and I got out of bikes and into cars, and after various "propper" 4-wheelers (i.e. RWD) like Mk1 Escort Mexico's, kit cars (Westfield & Marlin), and a rather loud 325i BMW, I got back into bikes. In 1993 I bought a TZR125 to take my test on, and an RGV250K because it was seized and cheap, but I always knew I wanted an NSR!

I sold the RGV before passing my test, er... but not before I'd put some serious mileage on it!! I went to London one weekend to have a look round a handful of well-known importers at the time. The first, BAT, had nothing in stock, so we went to another not far away (the name escapes me, but I think it was in Norwood - someone may know!!) and asked if they had any NSR's... "I think there's one out in the shed in the back" said the guy in the little showroom, so out I went. A couple of minutes later my mate called me over and there was a stunning MC21R in white and red and I was in love!! Not only that, but believe it or not, taped to the headlight was a dayglo star with "SOLD to ANDY!" written on it!! Obviously my destiny!!

The MC21SE was the latest model I could afford at the time (MC28's were fetching £5500-6000) and I promptly handed over a £750 deposit for my SE at Sumo Motorcycles in south London (long gone now!) still two weeks before my test was due! I'd have been gutted if I'd failed!! Smile

There you go, two stories in one... the first time I saw an NSR in a book, and the first time for real!

no worries glad it went to a good home Very Happy .

heres my story.
The first time i saw an NSR that i remember was when my mate first got his MC18, the later black and grey one wasnt really into strokers that much at the time was to scared of them blowing up!!! after seizing my RD125LC twice (how little i knew) and i had just bought my GSXR400 GK73 this would have been around spring 96.
sold the GSXR went bumming around India and Thailand for a year then came back and bought a 99 ZX6R Embarassed by this time my mate with his RGV had moved onto a ZX6 and my mate with the MC18 had moved onto a GSXR600 and Fontyyy had sold his RS125 and bought a NC29.
i had only had the 600 for about a year and i wanted something different didnt want a big bike, didnt want a 400 so went on a search for an NSR all i knew at the time was there was 3 models (i know there is more but...) so sat down at work for a couple of hours ringing bike shops...the cupbord was bare until i found a bike shop ( i later found out they have a reputation for being dodgy Evil or Very Mad)in Derby with a MC21R in red and white and what a beauty, apart from it didnt start or pull away properly but i didnt care i was blinded by the sexyness of the little minx Very Happy .
this ended up being the start of my troubles with NSR cranks, firstly having it rebuilt and eventually a new crank 1 month befor selling it DOH!!!!!.
This is the bike i loved until my 21SP came up on e-bay and i won it with a single bid of £1500, i think this was the NSR gods way of saying sorry for all the previous crank problems i had with my old R Rolling Eyes there you have it....if you want my SP you will have to prise it from my cold dead fingers cos its mine ya hear MMWWOOOHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Twisted Evil

probably 1st saw them in pb but B&M imports (now known as fastline) where one of the biggest importers of greys at the time and i managed to prise 3.5 grand from my bank manager Smile so trotted down to buy myself a new bike.

it was a toss up between a 21 or a 3tj FZR400 and needing reliability went for the 3tj, a definate case of head overcoming heart.

built my way up 4 strokes from there but still always wanted a 21 and 2 years ago got a company car so didnt need the bike so much so 2 months ago decided to start looking for a 21 and within a week had swapped my gsxr400 for the 21 i have now.

that drivle probabyl doesnt make sense but then i'm no author Smile

Does anyone ever remember that NSR in the mags years ago that had the see-through fairings? Cool

Pretty sure it was a 21.

I've searched on the net to find pictures, but no joy. The magazines probably still in my old bedroom at my paretns, i'll see if i can find it.

That see through faired one was on the PB stand at the NEC , about 5 years ago if i remember correctly, The first NSR i ever saw was also at B&M imports at Preston , but they were asking for quite a bit of cash for one at the time so i ended up buying a RZV500 from there instead thought it was the obvious upgrade choice , i had been running round on a 350 powervalve , eventually saw the light though!

I'd seen them in magazines and on the net but the first time i saw one in the flesh was the day before i bought mine!! This one was all yellow and was parked up on kingsway road outside the tool hire shop in Kirkby, i found the owner and he told me about Tyga and this site and let me sit on it etc etc. Next day i went off to this town near Middlesbrough and got me my own MC21R.....'sob'....'sniff'.....memories.... Eight months later and now its a fully Tyga'd example of TWO STROKE FURY!!! Twisted Evil

This post must be a blast from the past for some long time forum members. Interesting subject though.

I first saw a NSR in a 1992 issue of PB, group test of a 21SP Cabin, TZR250, CBR & GSXR 400. PB managed to bin the NSR, tester Simon Hargreaves trying to get his elbow down. The TZR didn't fare much better, the crankcase disintigrated around the kick-start lever Shocked

I was running a RGV 250 at the time, and thinking how much tricker the NSR looked. Japan market exotica. Then I got to the back page of the mag, and they had a Grey Bike feature with pics from the 92 Tokyo Bike Show.

I was in awe of the MC21SP Rothmans, described by PB as 'just like Cadalora's with lights'. Back then I was watching every GP race, seeing Cadalora on his factory Rothmans NSR fairing bashing with Bradl on his factory HB NSR. Great racing. That Rothmans 21 Rep just seemed mega to me.

At the time, I never thought I'd actually own one someday.

saw the mag with the mc18 and liked it but the first nsr in the flesh was owned by a lad that raced near us and it was the silver and clear panels mc 21.fell in love there and then, saw the pentax 21 in a mag and wanted one.i was racing a honda rs at the time so didnt have any cash, but got compensation for being half killed on my tzr a couple of years earlier.in 1999 the hunt to find an nsr was on but had no look finding an sp so bought an rgv Rolling Eyes a week later saw an advert in grey bike mag for a pentax 21 sp just off the boat, went and bought it 2 days later (yes its the 1 i still have) lived up to what i expected and then some, sold the rgv then ended up with a 21 se,an 18 and another pentax sp Laughing and i now want another pentax sp to go with my trick sp or a terra 18 sp Very Happy

I can't recall when I first saw one but I remember the first one I got to play with. A lad booked one into the dyno and it produced a whole 45hp. He then took it somewhere to have it derestricted (I can't recall where). Came back only to find it still only had 45. It took a number of goes untill he cracked what was holding it back.
