Should I?

Always hankered after one, but could never justify the outlay. Also been put off by the negative reports - heavy fuel consumption and slightly odd handling.

However, I'm at an age where such things can be overlooked, and more to the point upgraded!

Any opinions? Rolling Eyes

a few of my mates have had RGs and RDs and after seeing both of them i would rather go for the RG, the RD is MASSIVE really long and really tall and ugly to as well as being not as good as the RG (so i am told dont start throwing stats at me!!!) .
personally if i was gonna go own the silly 500 route, a mate of mine has found a kit so you can fit the gamma engine in an RGV frame they sell the pipes and everything already fabricated.

Since beauty is a subjective thing, I think the RD500 is one of the best looking bikes ever! Stuck in the eighties me...

As for the RG being better, I think all I've ever read says it is, but I think it's a bit ugly, and is a Suzuki...

I'd love an RD500, painted up in the Kenny Roberts colours.

Very Happy Wink

Thanks mate, but really, the RD is the only one for me - always has been. Especially since I owned an RD350F2 before the FJ (15 years ago!). Be nice to have the big brother at last...

Wyn, a guy I met in Florida could possibly change your mind on that Monkey:

And Mark, another friend from Florida, may change you mind on that!

Andy,

Nice try, but I don't like the top pipes on the RG - too sticky outty!

The RD looks good, but I wonder how much of that is original? One of the best bits of the RD is the seat hump in my opinion...

I like 'em too.
Undoubtedly inferior dynamics to the RG - but that can be fixed.
Crank DOES go at 30k

May be tempted to get one in a 3XV chassis when I've finshed the Honda.... Rolling Eyes
