not smokin

Wed Oct 12, 2005 8:55 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

hi started up my bike today..
as you know i have recently rebuilt...new spark plug in one cylinder(i broke the other one, so the lower one still has the old one)

anyway...both cylinders fire and the bike revs nicely..
one thing tho...there is like no smoke comin from the lower cylinder(the one with old sparky)
when i rev high there is a few puffs here and there while the other cylinder is smokin nicely.

i had a look at the old plug and it was wet....
i dont understand how there iscombustion but there is no smoke?

gonna get a new plug anyway and see...but any ideas tho?

cheers.

No smoke and a wet plug? Sounds like it's not firing at al to me. Check the pipe is getting hot to be sure it's firing.

Sounds as simple as that. Check the coil connections though, we've seen a few with pitting on the spade connectors of late, causing a voltage drop and crap spark.

I'd like to know the answer to that too. When my bike is idling, it's so noisely clanking. Even though it was in neutral, I had always thought it was just my dry clutch Confused

my old R used to blow cold and didnt smoke much from one of the pipes and i am afraid it was my crank which Andy then replaced for me Very Happy .

the clanking could be your dry clutch if you have one the R doesnt as standard but when idling my clutch (dry) sounds more like 'ting.....ting' than a clank clank, although i am no exspert it aint sounding to great for ya. Sad

damn....yeah that cylinder is actually blowin "colder" smoke than the other one and not as much smoke.

well the bottom cylinder is running rich...it is wet fouled...
but is that due to the jetting ?

or is it actually fouling because of the possible messed up crank?

i guess it is hard for you guys top tell from reading off your screens... Wink

make sure the jetting is right first, also see if the spark plugs are the same heat range have a look at the air fillter it my be clogged if all is fine take off the stater cover and see if ther is any movement side to side or up and down of the fly wheel this can tell you if the journal bearings are worn

can you get to listen to another two stroke? They do sound loud at idle compared to a four stroke, so the noise may be normal. No point panicking until it goes pop eh?

As for fouling the plug, it's either a badly setup carb, or the ignition circuit. Try swapping the coils over to see if the fault changes to the top cylinder.
