i've heard a lot about the airbox mod and removing the lid completely, which one is the best to do for dry road use?

i just got a moded airbox from tyga, have a look at there site, id stay with the airbox mod but others here run pods and i know some dont run it at all, you could make your own mod but the tyga one is only a few quid. remeber you may need to set you jest up as youll be sucking more air making the bike run a bit lean.... i havent put mine on yet it goes on at the end of the month with the hrc jet stuff.

An airbox of some form will always run better than pod filters, no lid is the easy way, it's very noisy though, but some people like that.

I found mine runs better with the lid on and a couple of 1 1/2" holes in the lid.

Be carefull, on the 18 and 21 the lid is a large part of the restriction (it is on the '28 too but so are the exhausts), jet accordingly.

You'll have to have a play and see what works best. Mine had 2 rather small holes in so I just made them bigger. Obviously one either side but apart from that there are no rules.

Steve and I did have a bit of a chat about this at the oh so well attended 2nd dyno day, he dropped about a horse going from 4 to 6 1" holes so he just taped them up. When I was down there the other week he had some 1/2 covered so he'd been playing again.
Andy also had a totally blank airbox lid (i.e. no inlet holes at all) which we were going to try a few different configs but we ran out of time. Crying or Very sad

And check the jetting. I can't really emphasize this enough.

I cut a large aquare out of the back of my lid - basically cut the two poxy inlet tubes off. Also cut the inner web from the lid.
