Front axle spacers

Tue Aug 30, 2005 3:11 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I went to install a front wheel on one of my bikes yesterday and found that the wheel and axle/spacers combination didn't work!!! I've lost track of which wheels come from what, but this front wheel seems to have too little distance between the bearings, i.e. when I put the front axle and spacers in, the front wheel is loose, and there are gaps ... I can't tighten the from axle bolt.

I've looked in the parts manual for the correct spacers, but it is impossible to tell from the pictures. My spacers look the same as the ones in the pictures, so maybe it is the tube between the bearings inside the axle that is too short?

Any help on this would be much appreciated, as I am quite confused, and don't know what parts I need to order to make this wheel fit. It looks completely normal in every other way.

Oh! The bike is an MC21,and the wheel ... I THOUGHT was off an MC21 but now I am beginning to wonder where the hell it came from.

Can you measure the distance from the outside faces of the bearings? someone can then measure up a 21/28 wheel and see if you've got an odd wheel.

I've got two wheels, an HRC wheel from (I think) an RS250, which fits, and a bog standard-looking front, which doesn't fit. The spacers could be from the RS250 which would explain everything, but I don't want to order some NSR parts from Honda to find out they're the same as what I've got when they arrive.
The standard-looking wheel is narrower (bearing to bearing).

Aha! So what I need to measure is the spacers. Anybody got any spacers lying around they would be happy to measure for me??

I've got another bike which I can take the wheel off, but that's got RS250 forks. I suppose that I can just measure them and see if they're the same. *sigh* I think I might be able to work this out somehow. Wouldn't have got there without being prompted by your suggestion though! SO thanks MAtt.

hello, mate,

I had a HRC front wheel on my 18 and i gave it to Racer38 before i sold the bike, in return he gave me a bog standard front (now the front for the 18 was the same as my 21) the spacers for the hrc wheel where to small and i needed the spacers for the standard wheel, Racer robbed his 21 of some spacers and Ta da it all worked fine, I think youll find that you need new spacers, Almost 100% certain as the hrc spacers where to short on the standard wheel. Hope this helps BY the way the NSR standard spacers are not the same lentgh so order in a pair. PS liked your video.

Just been and measured a pair of standard spacers and they are 15mm and 22mm.

Not sure on the HRC ones as they are now fitted to one of my MC21's, but they are a lot shorter.

New ther std spacers cost me about 5 quid each.......how much in Tokyo?

360 yen each, which is less than two quid. They arrive within 24 hours of ordering.
