The Queens English! - Rant follows...

Thu Aug 04, 2005 6:52 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I know I'm an old fart, but the standard of English on here seems to be dropping rapidly, making posts hard to read as I wince at the mis-use of Her Majesty's language.

Can we please try to use BIG letters to start sentences and people's names?

The odd paragraph would be appreciated too.

Oh, and a full stop once every couple of lines would be nice.

I exclude all those posting in their second language from this, you do bloody well as it is! Wink

Rant seconded.

It doesn't take five minutes to proof read your posts. To be fair it doesn't take that long to copy it out, spell check it properly and then preview it to make sure any hyperlinks or pics work.

It's all about having a little respect for the people who's advice you're after. Some posts are hard for me to work out what they mean, let alone someone who doesn't use English as their first language.

Ah, but we can aspire to be so. You have all taken the first steps by buying an NSR! Wink

Thank you Dave. StephenRC45 for one can tell you how much it niggles me, hence the addition of "No. 4" appearing in "The Rules" some time ago.

I have little or no time for someone who doesn't have the courtessy to at least click "Preview" before "Submit".

Why on earth would we use some band from the 70's to base our English on?

The server was setup with a local of US English, so that could be the problem.

I know Andy has asked me time and time again to add a spell checker to the forums in the hope that people would use it. But adding one would mean a bunch of work for me, and even more in order to "upgrade" the forums when new security patches come out. Because of this, I haven't been super active into looking to add the spell checker.

If some old lady on an Island in the Atlantic is going to get upset while she reads up on tuning her NSR, I could look into adding the spell checker, but I can't be held responsible for people that don't use it Wink

Thanks,

I have it on good authority that the Queen has someone else tune her NSR and read the Site content to her, so they translate any crap (i.e. American/childish TXT) English to her "on the fly".

By the way, the Queen rides an MC21 and says it is by far the best of all the models! She says she particularly likes the feeling of the HRC front suspension setup!

Remember, questioning the Queen could be seen as treason, and is therefore still punishable by hanging!

NSR250 MC21 - by royal appointment! Very Happy
