My bike is BACK!!

Sun Jul 24, 2005 3:03 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Good news Laughing
completed the top end rebuild. Managed to source a barrel from drschneider (nsr forum member in Germany) Thanks mate Wink

I decided to do both pistons (of course) and my total cost was under £300.
I have to say Jo at apexleisure was a great help with parts Wink

The bike started after about 7-10 kicks and warmed up nicely.

I read the running in process and it seems very short to me. Any suggestions to mileage that should be covered? I always thought it was about 500miles Question

Anyways I still have to sell it to get a bike for commuting to work Crying or Very sad
I shall be putting her on ebay again ........

Did you pull apart your power vavles ?
I'm doing my topend now and was woundered if there is anything that holds them in or do you just pull the shaft and valve fall out ? I would like to do it seeing how the cylinder is off and it would be easiest. Look like there is a clip (e-ring #13) in the parts list.

Any help would be great ?

Hi I'm afraid I did not do it all myself so I could not help with the power valves Wink
I only worked on the basics - and all with a little help from my friends Laughing

I'm sure there will be a quick reply though

The e-clip DOESN'T hold the RC Valve in the barrel - it's more of a "locator". The oil seal and the pulley back-plate (and the e-clip against the back of the seal) are what's stopping the spindle coming out.

The spindle will no doubt be a bit tight if it's not been pulled for some time, but it will come out.

As for "the running in process"... what is there to run in? You have used cylinders and a used crank with roller bearings for the big & small ends and ball bearings for the mains, all of which don't even need running in when new!

All you need to do is scuff the rings in and it's ready to fly. I'd put about 10 minutes on them and ring its neck if it were me!

If you want to waste your time doing 500 miles at 6000rpm though, then that's up to you! You'll probably do it more harm than good though!

Yeah, go and enjoy it before you sell it!

As long as you've put fully synthetic in it and everything is set up properly, you shouldn't have anything to worry about other than the rain! Smile
