re NikaSil job

Wed Nov 04, 2020 10:55 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

So the exhaust bridge cracked on my barrel and it needed to be welded and re Nikasil'd. I sent it to Poteon in the UK. When I got it back a quarter of the crack wasn't even welded. I was very disappointed with the job overall and there was very slight scoring on the barrel. 2 months after paying for the job and return shipping they send me an invoice looking for a further 40 euros. considering the poor job that was done on it I was fairly annoyed. they also charged nearly 55euros for return postage which seemed excessive. I emailed them back and forth trying to understand the charges and they were absolutely useless and rude. The woman on the phone was clueless aswell.

I would highly recommend not using Poteon for re-NikaSil or welding jobs. I know people have got their barrels done with them before and they were happy but this was my experience with them and I would advise you to stay well away with your barrels.

I have no problem with you sharing your negative experiences here, and sympathise with you. However, we always use Aptec, and they've been great, so YMMV, as they say in the States.

Conversely, many laud Langcourt, whereas I've seen their plating flaking off an NSR barrel before.

Never heard of Poteon before, and that's after a decade spent in and around race paddocks involved with 2 strokes, whereas every ones heard of Aptec and Langcourts.

I wouldn't give up there as Aptec have a generally good name...ask to speak to the owner of the company or the tech who did the job and talk it through with them a little...People are generally reasonable if you ask in a reasonable way, good luck!

I might do that. I used them because they had a good name but unfortunately I was shocked with the service I received.

so I spoke to them and explained that the postage seemed very expensive to send something from the UK to Ireland (considering signed and insured was only 20 pounds for me to send it to them). They said to me that I should be happy because they usually charge 45 pounds and that they were only charging me 41 pounds. But after looking at the invoice they were actually charging me 47.50 for postage. I said it to them and they gave me the greatest 'non answer', answer ever. I just left it at that, I didn't even get into the weld not being done properly and how dissatisfied I was with everything.

Aptec are completely pathetic in my opinion, I was treated horribly.
