I have 2 sets of Magteks that need paint. shipping them to the UK would cost a bomb so I was wondering can anyone in Ireland paint Magteks? Thanks _________________ John 3:7

No etch prime is definetely not up to the job and they will corrode. Have you had them blasted? I have had magteks blasted using nylon blast media which is gentle enough to not damage the coating under the paint.
I no longer have access to this facility though so have sent the last couple of pairs to TCPS in the UK, excellent service and quick turnaround every time I have used them.

Hobsons choice really, the only company I know of who will do magnesium wheels correctly is TPCS. Paint strip, crack check, re chromate and powder coat is about £250 a pair. The only thing I would say is the gold is a bit blingy and not a match for the original Honda colour, I believe they will send them out unpainted if you want.
All ours go to Griff's Reality Motorworks in Bristol. More expensive than TPCS, I think, but personally I think the results are better. A few sets of wheels I've seen from TPCS have really had the paint laid on thickly, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just that it can cause a loss of fine detail in castings, if that's your thing. Griff's "Magtek" gold is also very close to OEM... but you need to really emphasise how important the colour match is, as is the case with all refinishers I find. Maybe we're unnecessarily anal about it, but it seems a common complaint!
Just personal preference, and a second opinion. _________________ Andy.

I've had wheels painted by both and can't fault either. STPC do seem thicker paint, but Steve used to work for Dymag, so knows a lot about exotic wheel materials. Nick from Reality provides a fantastic service and I was very happy with the anodising they did on my swingarm. _________________ Why do things simply when you can complicate them
Pretty sure Nick's ex-Dymag too. I think that's why Griff quotes on the the website they're one of only two companies in the UK that are qualified to refurb Mg wheels... the other being TPCS. Because both guys are ex-Dymag. _________________ Andy.

I've used them a lot, both within the UK, and internationally. But bear in mind, most couriers don't/won't insure automotive parts for some reason. (Wheels may be different. Just check the small print.) _________________ Andy.
