88 MC18 idle issue

Fri Feb 28, 2020 5:49 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi all,

I’m experiencing a two stage idling issue with my bike. I have cleaned the carbs and set the float height and everything is as per the stock settings.

Once the engine is started, warmed up and then reached operating temperature, the engine will idle at around 1800 rpm.

When the throttle is opened again slightly, it will idle at 1800 for a few seconds and then drop slowly to 1200.

The idle adjustment is making no difference.

Any info appreciated.

Best case scenario, it sounds like an air leak.

When it's idling low and stable (around 1200rpm), try squirting a little carb cleaner behind the flywheel and around the inlet manifold. If the revs rise, that will be your problem.

Sounds like an air leak from the intake manifold.
