NSR SP is it real

Tue Aug 21, 2018 12:51 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I am selling a 94' NSR 250R-SP for a friend who passed away and it's in a collection of about 30 bikes. I have found that it's hard to find out if it's a real SP. The things that i have found that are different from a say SE are the clickers on top of the forks, Magteck wheels, paint design and the blinkers in front are supposed to be white. It has wheels that look like the Magteck but are stamped Honda on the inside of the spoke, it also has both of the computer cards one for street one for track, it is in beautiful shape with only a little over 6K miles on it. On the front of the frame next to the fork there are numbers MC28-1006392 and the motor numbers are MC16E-1306394 can anybody help me out? I would not like to sell it as a SP if it's not!

Based on the model list here:

https://www.tso.us.com/parts-book/honda/0250nsr250/id-model/2-index/model-id.asp

The VINs for an MC28SP Rothman is between MC28-1000001 to MC28-1006013. I have no idea how accurate that range is. One way would be to check the color code. Under the real cowl, on the subframe near the rear pegs, should be a sticker with the original color code of the bike. That's at least some place to start. You might also want to post up more detailed pics of the bike to help with identification.

However, if the VIN ranges are accurate on the page I linked above your VIN fits in the 1994-1995 MC28 SE range.

Body kit

Hi I have also just noticed the on fairing kit the Rothmans decal beside the front indicator is to low. The OEM decal is split between the upper and lower fairing, I would take a look inside the fairing for Honda dates moulded in the fairing, the non genuine fairing kits don't have the part no or dates,

NH-196 is the color code for the basecoat of Ross White which I believe all the MC28's have (except for maybe the Repsol SP).

After looking for the different part numbers for the various NSR paint scheme color code stickers it looks like the Rothman scheme should have a code of NH196HB. Of the following link it's part #13 on the diagram. https://www.tso.us.com/parts-book/honda/0250nsr250/mc28-100-3r/3_part_pages/f_35.asp

Looks like the NH196KA code that yours has is for the tri-color model

Even though it may not be a Rothman it's still likely an SE MC28. Those draw big bucks in the US since they aren't even supposed to be here (not over 25yrs old yet).
