buying parts on ebay from Japan to the U.S.

Has anyone ever had problems buying parts on ebay from japan being sent to the U.S with customs or extra fees? The ebay store has a customs disclaimer and the usps and customs can't give me a clear answer. What I found on ebay forums was a $800 limit but also some said and the usps site says something about $2000 limit but it is very vague. Any help?

I haven't had any issues yet, but most of the items I've bought were around probably $500 and under

Ive ordered plenty of parts from Japan for my NSR on eBay. Never had a problem!
