New member.... potential purchase

Sun Oct 29, 2017 10:06 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi all,

New member here from Melbourne, Australia.

I'm currently looking into purchasing a 1986 NSR250R in blue/white colour scheme. The bike is all original and runs well, but my only concern is some damage to the bike resulting from it being dropped in the previous owner's garage.

The damage is as follows:
1. Scratches and marks on right hand side fairings;
2. Damage to right hand side exhaust; and
3. A dent in the fuel tank on the right hand side.

I was just wondering where the best potential places would be to find replacement parts to fix this damage, and if anyone might know an approximate cost of these. I have attached some photos of the damage if this helps.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
hombschy

Hello "hombschy", and welcome to NSR-WORLD.

Great find! Most MC16s we see tend to be red... nice to see a blue one!

In fairness, that damage really is minimal. If the tank is in good condition inside, then personally I would say you are much better off taking it to a good body shop and having it repaired. A good shop will be able to fix that no problem at all.

As for the fairing and seat, plastic welding techniques these days are really good, and again all of those panels are going to be easily repaired. We've had panels really badly trashed that you honestly couldn't even tell had been repaired afterwards!

The top fairing on the R2J below was in 3 pieces, and severely cracked all over...

I think you will struggle to find good condition MC16 panels, and if you do they are going to be very expensive. Remember they are 30 years old now, so will be few and far between. Personally, I say get yours repaired.
