MC28 sloppy transmission

Mon Oct 16, 2017 5:04 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

My MC28 repsol seems to have too much play in the transmission. It does not matter what gear I am in when I let off the throttle or give it throttle it seems to be way too much play.
There is way too much sloop between the wheel and the transmission to keep up. The shifts are very violent too. Shifts are easy to find and stays in gear. I have replaced all clutch parts so far. inner and outer basket bearing etc. bike has 9000km and is mint. I believe the previous owner took really good care of it. I also have a MC21 Pentax and it does not have this issue. as for comparison.
any advise would be appreciated. Thank you, Greg

Is it at the rear, front sprocket or the gearbox?

Sloppy transmission.

Check the torque arm which fits between the rear of the engine and the swingarm pivot.
If you can see the engine move when you pull the chain down, or push down on the gear lever and see the chain get slack, that’ll be your trouble.
The bushes at each end wear and gives the horrible gear change you describe, mine were real bad, I had some new bushes made up as they’re NLA I’m told.
Good luck!

I actually recognize what he is saying. I might have the issue. It feels like play somewhere in the transmission. For me it is most recognizable when at speed, going of the throttle, decelerating on the engine, 1 second later it feels like some kind off weight which still had speed kicks in hitting the slowing down bike.

At first I thougt it might have been fuel in the tank. But I don't feel the thing when I decelerate (with a little brake) and pull the clutch.. It's definitly in the transmission somewhere...

I plan on taking everything appart next few months,.. But it helps to have a direction to search for.

Anyone got a clue?
