MC16 CDI replacement - I bought China repops

Picked up 2 of these since 1 of mine was acting funky. Figured it'd be better than spending $3-500 on a used pair that may not last long anyway. The pair of the china pops cost me $275 shipped. They got here in about 11-12 days.

I have nothing bad to say about these repops. They are the same size, nearly same weight, same everything. My bike has been sitting for a week without running and it started first kick, even without a whole lot of fuel in the bowls. 100% satisfied, 100% worth the money.

Haven't seen too much feedback for these so I figured I'd pony up and take one for the team. My bike has honestly never run better. Threw in some new plugs for the hell of it and filled her up with ethanol free 103 from the station down the road. If it wasn't raining, jesus HC I'd be doing some serious cornering right now... Good god. Who knew such pep could come from a 30 year old machine!

I have a video coming too. I'm editing right now.

Really stoked on this bike. Have a LOT more parts on the way from Japan... Comcast SCREWED me this morning with an outage at 5am... JUST when I'm putting in a bid for a fairing. I ended up getting fairing brackets for 95 cents, a cherry OEM windscreen for $65 (ugh) and a belly v-piece for $130 (UGHHHH)... but I'd rather have them than not so.. I was looking at a right side fairing that unfortunately the outage cost me, at a really great price, too. I'm sure there will be more.

I re-did the exhaust this weekend, too. Here's my 'write-up' using regular VHT exhaust paint from the auto parts store - http://imgur.com/a/c23qz

Going to miss this bike when I sell it, but the MC21 or 28 taking it's place should ease the pain, I'll be ok Very Happy - The last thing I have to do is clean up the sprocket and chain and then paint the wheels. Not sure if I want to put new tires on just yet (they are 100% smoked right now) because all the shops around town are charging me extra because they don't stock them. No thanks! Dry rubber is fine for just sitting.

Thanks for the report, and for taking the plunge with a Chinese seller!

Haven't personally had great results from the Chinese before, and once (twice!) bitten and all that, tend to generally dissuade members from taking the chance!

Sometimes it's a bit difficult to understand some of the Yahoo Japan / google translations. A lot of the times for the CDI units they are asking $500 for the pair and they say 'unconfirmed'. And even if they DID work...how long is still the question. They're still 30 year old electronics, ya know? Figured I'd just bite the bullet and post back for anyone who may have doubts.

The TV repair man down the road said if I can get the boards out from my OEM units that he'd go through and replace anything I needed for $150 ea. +tax. It's a great deal, I'd just rather use that as a last resort.

I'm sourcing the last 2 fairings I need and painting the wheels, and I'm calling it quits. I've got fuel tank coming from Greece for $30 and s/h Very Happy after that, it's gonna go up for sale again. I've got my eyes on something PGM 3+
