Front wheel interchangeability

Mon May 16, 2016 2:34 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Are any front wheels a straight swap with the three spoke MC16 wheel? I have an MC18 rear wheel and would like a matching one up front. Having had my MC16 forks re-chromed and sourced replacement calipers and discs I'm reluctant to try to find a complete front-end from a later model.

I know that the spindle must be the same diameter as the 18/21 as the bearings are the same, but I'm not sure about the other dimensions and the disc fitting. The MC16 has bolts right through the hub that hold both discs on - I believe later models had bolts screw into the wheel, but may be wrong.

Thanks for any help!

reading through some of the tuning FAQs myself you will need to swap the front end completely over

What did you need to swap over the MC18 wheel? Did it bolt right up?

MC16 has a speedo (odometer) drive built into the wheel. 88~97 does not.

The 88~97 wheels may fit (I've never tried it), but you're going to struggle with the width of the components and the brakes.

The way forward is a complete front-end swap.

Thanks Andy.

Stu - I never actually tried it. My MC16 forks were re-chromed and I sourced a complete MC16 brake setup to replace the incorrect brakes fitted to the bike, so I'm not too keen on binning that all. The front wheel that came with the bike is ok so I think I'll stick with that.
