Unleaded race fuel

Tue Jun 21, 2016 9:58 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

As my RS250 NX5 is ready to go now, I need to buy some fuel for it.
I was going to run my NX5 on Avgas but as it is just over a 70 mile round trip to my nearest aerodrome, this is going to be a bit of a pain.
So, what unleaded fuel would the experts suggest and where to buy it from?
I've so far found:
Carless Hiperflo MSA 2T (cheapest)
Panta 18 MTV2T (Slighty more expensive)
Elf Mits 42 and 46 (Eeek!)
I'll be using Elf HTX976 oil.
Cheers!

Not if you paid me!

I'd rather do the 70 mile round trip Innes.

Yep, do the trip Innes, i do about a 50 mile round one for mine, take 3 or 4 jerry cans, you will be surprised how long that lasts, it's not like your gonna be out every weekend.

Thank you for the replies.
The way things are going, I think one jerry can would last the year Les!

I'm sure you have mentioned this before Stephen, but I would be interested to hear your views on the subject.
I know Avgas is better for longevity of engine parts and a bit more forgiving on the jetting side, but why do you not recommend it?

Avgas100LL has lead - LL is Low Lead. Unleaded, as the name suggests is lead free. The lead acts as an additional lubricant. If you're not looking for the last couple of horse power, go with Avgas for the reasons you've already stated.
