Well I took Matt's advice - I checked to see if the brake lever was making a clicking sound whenever I engaged & disengaged the front brake lever... it wasn't.
So I unscrewed the brake switch assembly to see how it worked. When I did, I saw the switch - which depressed made the clicking sound... hmmm???

... So I hooked the the plugs back on -> the brakes light up. Pressed the switch -> brake lights turn off w00t!! released the switch -> brake lights on, double w00t!!. So I place the switch assembly back in its position under the brake lever and saw that when the brake lever was disengaged, it wasn't making enough contact with the switch to deactivate the lights.
Dilemma: How do I extend the switch length?
Solution: I grabbed my company laptop, and removed the nib from the pointer... and what do you know... it fits perfectly. I position the switch assembly back in place and it operates perfectly!!!

Thanks for everyon'e help ... and light hearted banter
