i had a look inside the switch unit and all seems ok...everyhting is connected/soldered. there does seem to be a li bit of melted black stuff but i cleaned it and all looks good.

by the way...when i use the switch to turn the low beam on, the instruments still light up fine, so the actual switch is ok?
