Im asking what the best oil to use is, not if I should use it!

ie:

What gearbox oil do you recomend
What 2 stroke oil do you recomend
What coolant do you recomend.

barry,

coolant = anything that isn't water. I always used distiller water, and water wetter (RedLine).

2-stroke oil = I use Castrol A747. Probably overkill for a street bike. Try a Motul 600, it's always good for injector systems.

Gear Oil = Redline Lightweight Gear oil (yellow label).

I am sure there is plenty of other good quality products out there.

Thanks,

I know not to use water on its own cause of the ally head, but wandered if Honda have some premix they recomend? When I've rebuilt car engines I've always used the recomended coolants etc.. rather than mixing water and antifreeze.

I was thinking the A747 would be the best 2 stroke, alot of people seem to use it.

But the gearbox oil I'm not so sure on, anyone know what Honda recomend, or what would be best for track use (ie: a different grade?)?

What gearbox oil is the most common?

I cant remember what I used to use when I had my KR1S many moons ago!! Confused

Barry,

A747 is for pre-mix only, and should not be used in an injector system. Check the oil you buy, and make sure it's okay to use for injector systems.

Honda is going to recommend something they produce. Could be good, but maybe not the best. Not that Honda stuff is bad, jut that you can get other stuff.

I have used the readline gear box oil for about five years with no issues. I am sure others can recommend other products, I am just stating what I use.

If you get a good quality product, I am sure it will be fine.

Thanks,

Hi, Any branded FULLY synth 2stroke engine oil should be ok as long as it's suitable for injector system's (assuming you have one).

Any branded gear oil classed as "light" (I think about a 40weight), holds about +/-750mls.

No point harping on about this brand or that brand as I don't know the exact composition of each and every oil on the market, 10 people will have 10 opinions and all that.

Wink

Have a look at our RockOil page for some ideas.

RockOil are part sponsoring our Dyno Day and a technical representative (and a full van of products) will be on hand for great deals at the event!!

For my MC21 with the oil injection system still functioning;

Coolant: any that is suited to Alloy engines
G/box: Motul Transoil
2T: Motul 600

Have also heard good things about the Castrol R2R (sp?) for injected NSRs.

Cheers,
Jez

No! Wink

I use Honda Ultra GR2, and including riding at the track I've had no problems. Only I noticed that it produces smoke at the back. Question
