NSR300 Pistons

Mon Jul 12, 2010 5:04 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I've had lots of inquiries regarding the Wiseco pistons, and when are they going to be available etc etc, but I'm afraid it's a question that I can't answer.

The forge tools used to make this piston were at first lost (not sure how), but we bankrolled new tooling to make the piston. This went well up until December last year, when I put in a new piston order. I was then told (after more than a month waiting) that they'd discontinued the piston and wouldn't be making it.

Since that day I've been trying to get them back into production. Even agreeing to pay (a lot of money) to make new tooling (again), but still nothing has appeared. It was their idea that I must pay for new tooling and I said go for it, but they may have been calling my bluff, as they won't even send me an invoice so that I can pay them to get going.

In the meantime I have contacted another forged piston manufacturer (Wossner) and it seems that they are actually keen to make the piston for me. I should know within the next few days what they can do for me. We still have a couple of technical issues to discuss.

The Wossner piston will be forged, like the Wiseco, but with a moly coated skirt. First choice is a normal two ring set up, but may also do a single ring version. I'll discuss that with the manufacturer and it depends on set-up fees etc. as to whether it's worth it.

I'll keep you all informed as best I can, and I'll post up here when I have more info. If I haven't posted it means I don't know.

Cheers,

Matt.

Have you tried CP pistons? They seem willing and capable of producing custom slugs when Wiseco can't. i know that they are a bit pricier, maybe thats the factor. Where are Wossner from?

I actually have a set of Wisecos I got from you a whiile back. Are these different? I still haven't put them in yet. years after. Confused

Yep, I am probably the last person to hassle Matt about forged slugs.
Thanks for the time and effort Matt of trying to source these bits.
We are all waiting anxiously.
