Painting rotor carriers.

Wed Jun 23, 2010 5:38 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi Guys

Have been away for a couple of years racing MX but injury and burnout have me back and keen to finish my tyga NSR.

Is there anyway to remove the rotor buttons to get acces to the carriers for painting?

Cheers
Mark

You would have to grind off the buttons, and replace them with the reusable type. I thing Brembo do them.
I have had good results by flatting back the carrier, masking the disc and half the button is easy. Put a little grease on the exposed button, paint, and when dry remove the grease and over spray with a little thinners.

I repainted my carriers a few years ago. I used a large drill bit to remove the outer part of the button If I remember right the button fell apart before I even got close to drilling into the disc or carrier. Then replaced them with some from Jamie's site.

I taped up the disc and the rivets and painted the carriers.
I was really happy with the result. I gave the calipers and rotors about 5 coats each, 5min apart, using the hairdryer on them between coats, then baked them in the oven for about 30 min after.
