Programmable CDI

Sat Feb 05, 2005 3:37 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I'm thinking about using a programmable CDI on my NSR PGM III. I know that there isn't one specifically made for the NSR but it seems if I can:

1. Find a magneto CDI (ie. dirtbike type) based ignition with PV output
2. Replace the coils to match the proper resistance
3. Either mount the new pickup or use an existing pickup
4. Enter the proper curve data and PV data

I should be good to go. Any thoughts?

One other question I have is if I notch my flywheel for the pickup, will this cause a problem with the balance of the flywheel? Any idea how deep and wide the notch will have to be?

Thanks

rip

I think you might get your self into a more trouble than its worth. Ignition trigger wheels are a science on there own. Andy has told me before and ive seem RC30 ones with it, that there was a few PGM units made with a removable Eprom. Maybe you could hunt high and low for one of them and go from there. Burning a new Eprom chips isnt hard if you found one.
