NSR vs NSR

Tue Mar 30, 2010 10:53 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Can someone please enlighten me: I know there's the NSR250 race replica, which is/was a street bike sold in Japan, and then there's the RS250 which is a real GP bike. But what about the NSR250 GP motorcycle that was ridden by Luca Cadalora, Biaggi, et al?
Were the GP NSRs predecesors to the RS250, or were they in production at the same time, and what would be the difference(s) between the street version of the NSR and the GP version?
Thanks and apologies if this has been covered before.

well, the NSR street version is technically the "NSR250R", while the factory GP bike is the "NSR250". RS250 was basically a privateer based bike.

Ok, I see. So the "RS" and "NSR" are the same bike, just one name was affiliated to factory bikes and the other to privateers?

That's not what he said. They are 3 different machines.

NSR250 and NSR500 - factory race bikes never sold to public
NSR250R, NSR250R SE and NSR250R SP - street bikes sold to public
RS250 - race bikes with no street equipment sold to privateer racers

The models MC16, MC18, MC21, and MC28 are models associated with the street going machines. Plain R model is the wet clutch, non adjustable suspension version, SE is the dry clutch, adjustable suspension version, and SP is the same as SE but with the addition of lightweight MAGTEK wheels, special paint and limited production (usually around 1000-1500 units).

I understand they are three different machines. The second question I posted has nothing to do with street bikes. I asked what the difference is between a factory NSR and an RS.

Ok...so are the NSR and RS, and I'm talking about the GP bikes, not street bikes, two COMPLETELY different machines, or do they share any similarities, or than they're both Honda 2-stroke twins?

Yes they are... Just to give you an example how these bikes cost...The latest type of RS250, NXA cost new around 14.000GBP and the factory NSR cost around 70.000GBP...!!!

I think that's say it all...

Ok, what about the RS250RW that Hiroshi Aoyama rode last year? Surely that's not the same as a privateer RS250. Was this model the successor to the NSR250 works bike?
