Cleaning engine oxidation

Fri Aug 28, 2009 10:27 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Have noticed some of the "bikes of the months" on jamies page have immaculately clean engines. I am rebuilding my bike from the ground up and would like to get my engine this clean but not sure what to use.

Have used degreaser which has got all the grease off but there is still the oxidation etc. How can I get this cleaned? Have heard oven cleaner is this a possibility, is this true?

Any reccommendations would be awsome thanks?

If the oxidation is bad , you can have your casings bead blasted . They use a plastic / poly carbonate bead , it works well !

Vapour blasting will bring them up (usually) like new. They will need to be treated after though to stop them oxidising again, as vapour blasting tends to "dry" the alloy out.

ACF-50 is a very good corrosion/oxidation inhibitor, but it's not cheap! It does however do a significantly better job than WD40!
