oil pumps

Mon May 11, 2009 10:34 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

just after a bit of feed back on the oil pump.. I premixed up a tank of gas, unhooked the 2 pipes from the carbs, into a separate res.

Well, as i suspected not a lot going on, little drizzle here and there, usually after a blip

what prompted me to check/disassemble, is 2 reasons,
-because after a cruise the other night, i hopped off, gave her a few blips, and couldn't see any smoke at all, smelled like a car, no oil scent etc and,
-ive filled oil tank once, and refueled 4 times full to empty, and theres still atleast 600ml + in the tank...

Ok so that means its using/pumping ok but, im curious to know weather it pumps stronger when the oil tank is full compared to 1/2 empty

im not sure what can be done short of replacing the pump, as always have done some research thru previous posts. some say its not meant to pump while idling etc..

On tick over there will be very very little activity from the pump, to check it you need to disconnect the pipes as you have, (remember to block the feed pipes into the carbs though) and manually open the pump to full, it should start to flow a bit more then, allthough not loads.

Someone said before that the best way to know if its working is to run premix and take the tubes from the oil pump into a catch box or bag (one for each tube). Ride it as you usualy do and see if you end up with oil in the box or bags after a ride. remember to block the openings to the carburator!! or it will rev like a nut!
They are hell to bleed as well so better run a tank of premix once you re-fit the tube to the carburator.
