Big (MC16 sized) flywheel - 88
Small (MC21/28 sized) flywheel - 89

Quick way to tell... if it's still attached of course!

It came out of my MC21 Shocked

Well, I did buy it as an mc18, but it came with a bent swingarm, so I'll call her an MC21...

The shop must have read the engine No...

It will be an 89 then, if it has an MC21 flywheel (or MC21 pulser coils), as the the pulser coil mounts are spaced too far apart on the earlier cases to work with 21 parts.

Simple thing to do is see if the flywheel fits the "spare" 21 motor. If it does, and the coils line up, then it's most likely an 89.
