Chain help MC21 - clinking sound

Sun Oct 26, 2008 8:55 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

hi guys

just changed my front + rear sprockets and chain, everything re fitted, just took it for a test, and the bike is making a clinking noise

raised the bike and have found that this adjustment or guide thing that is fitted to the swing arm is resting on the chain making the sound...

was the chain supposed to go over this or is it supposed to sit on top.......... now im thinking that its supposed to go over...

but i have nfi.

any help appreciated

cheers

edit* sorted for the moment with a cable tie, will try and get pics as looking at the parts manual comes to no assistance cos im not sure what im looking for, checked the swingarm and frame page but no luck

yeah i know, i wasnt bothered last night with taking it though, and needed a quick fix. will try and get some this weekend

thnx for the help tho, but try to picture this, where the chain goes, behind the clutch side footpeg, theres a piece of metal that is attached to the rear swingarm (not the bloody subframe like i said earlier Embarassed), which hangs down to the bottom of the rear swingarm, and either acts like a guide for the chain... or isnt supposed to be there.

Andy...I think he's just as confused as all of us Laughing

He means behind the gear change lever.

I always thought that the chain guide was a black rubber bit and there weren't any significant aluminium components for the chain to slide on...otherwise you'd have aluminium shavings all through your chain and a drastic result :O

Need a picture but that does sound like it might be the hose guide that is there.

Has the motor ever been out? It's not the torque link that hasn't been refitted is it?

The torque link is attached between the swinarm pivot and the back of the motor on the shifter side to prevent the motor from excessively twisting in the frame.
