My 1993 MC21 SP Build Topic

Thu Aug 14, 2008 2:49 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I want to start a topic as I start a very nice build

I find it easy to start one topic with pics and ask questions instead of making a bunch of sperate topics

Here is my SP as it sits in the shop...

I got it on this site from the west coast.
The bike ran when I unloaded it off the truck
I have most of the OEM 1992 Rothmans Plastics...I am missing the upper fairing so I will need to buy an aftermarket and paint to match.

Bike has some NICE upgrades...Trick resets, stainless brake lines, Woodcraft Race Clip-on's, and a set of 39mm Keihin PWK Carbs w/ Uni Pod Filters, and a 520 Chain Kit

SO I hope to get this bike riding for this season

New Rubber and some sorting

Fri Aug 15, 2008 1:00 am » Post: #3 » Download Post

I got these a few days ago. Once I get the Magteks painted white I can get these babies mounted.

I need to replace the fork seals in the forks so I started taking apart the front end. I removed the fiberglass RSW style fender that needs a little repair from what looks like a lite down.

Next the pulled the calipers..which were on BACKWARDS Shocked
The "Nissin" on both faced inward the tire.
So next time I will get the axle out, rotors off and tire dismounted.

I was also able to get the rear undertail installed and battery locked down.
Then get all the wiring finished and sorted. It was nice to get that undertail in it just makes it look more and more complete.

Well if so I would feel stupid.

It just seemed to me they would not take the time to cast the NISSIN then put it to the inside.

Please tell me if i'm way off base NSR-world.....

What did you pay for the tires and who did you get them from?

My calipers don't face with the NISSIN inward, but I have a 28 and sometimes those 21's are a little different. Razz

Let me know if you need fork seals and boots, I have a few extra OEM pieces that I don't need.

MC21 - Nissin on the inner face of the caliper.
MC28 - Nissin on the outer face of the caliper.

MC28 is all show... Laughing

Progress.....Street to Race in days

Thu Sep 25, 2008 11:42 pm » Post: #11 » Download Post

Well I have some time to show what we have been doing to the NSR.

The RS250 bodywork seems to fit pretty good. The upper fits really good other then the right side upper coolant hose need a little trim to center the upper. The brake resivor needs to shift over with a new bracket.

Lower was a bit more of a challenge
I still need chambers to finish the fit... we have trimmed the front and the tail. I hope there is enough left when we are done to past tech.

The tailsection is on back order from the mfg. so I fit the stock panel just to fit the look. Alum. subframe is in process...really waiting on tailsection to fit the seat panel width.

The tear own story

Fri Sep 26, 2008 12:03 am » Post: #12 » Download Post

So the strip show starts......

I don't know where to start this story...other than I wanted to know what was under the carbs Question First look there were 4 spacer plates...why I wanted to know...

Carbs are 39mm PWK Two stroke specfic but I question if they are too big for the cc.
Under the carbs the plates were glued together with one plate holding the screws for the carbs. The next plate held the screws going into the plate that held the screws that bolted to the crankcase. Well after all that chessy fab work it just gets better......

Next I pulled the reed cages....one carbon reed three stock reeds. Then I noticed only one of the steel pedals was attached.
Why would someone do this??

The rearsets were trash...bent,shift shaft bend, pegs rashed.
I left the shop Mad ....but then as a rode home I knew a 15 year old bike would have it's share of booby fab

On to the next adventure why my coolant looks a little milky....

You need the 89-90 RS250 carb manifolds.
Tyga rearsets are good. As are their pipes.

38mm+ are what the 250GP's are running. Even the CR125 MX bike runs a 39...

It'll pick up power at the top.
Oddly, on the Suzonkey RGV forum, a guy who put TZ carbs on found it gave better power at the bottom and better midrange than the stock 34mm, but only a little more topend.
I put Keihin 38mm carbs on my aprilia RS250. HEEeeps better topend.
