first of all you need to know what you are going to do with it!!
i.e. just a sunday morning toy or a full on street wepon/ track days etc
i found my self in the same position a few months back and ended up with a mc28 se
for just a sunday toy you can go for either 21 or 28 they are both pretty quick in standard form and draw loads of attention .
i personally like the 21 body shape with nice sharp edges though i like the pro arm on the 28.
if you want the ultimate street/ track tool then you have to go for a 21 as they are alot more easy and cheaper to get full power
21`s are 45bhp standard and 60-70bhp is only a 1hr job no cost
28`s are 40bhp standard and 55-60bhp will cost you a grand if you have no hrc card
55 bhp is pretty easy/cheap with a MC28 using race pipes and an MC21 flywheel. Failing that you could grind out the washers in the standard pipes and just get the flywheel. It shouldnt cost more that £30 for a MC21 flywheel...if you can find one. Any more than that and you will need a HRC card which only used to cost £70, unfortunalty you cant buy them so have to find a complete PGM with card which usually cost nearer £400.
In my opinion 60bhp is pretty easy from 21 with the wire splice and airbox mod. 70bhp will also be a lot more work and cost a lot more than an hours work.
MC21
MC28 is for posers who like single sided swingarms and computerised dashes
Both are great with no real advantage over each other from a chassis and cycle parts perspective. Buy the MC28 if you like the computerised dash and single sided swingarm, otherwise the MC21 is cheaper to derestrict.
Wheelbase for both is 1340mm. Way smaller than the 1400-1410 of the gay superbikes.
Rake and trail are 23/22.75 degrees and 87mm for the 21/28 respectively. It's the tiny trail which affects the turning the most. _________________ NSR300R - Why did i ever have a 250...
SA racers may not be entirely wrong if the head angles are different and the wheelbase the same. As the the MC28 has a steeper steering angle this would make the front end slightly shorter, so something has to be added to arrive at the same wheelbase. Does anybody know what the differences are? As they have the same trail, a guess would be the triple clamps have a greater offset...

Sorry to be pedantic Maxim, but the MC28 is 85mm... it is after all, the tiny differences!
If anything, the MC28 should be the "handler", but there's certainly nothing wrong with a well set up MC18 Mk2 or MC21. The MC21 only really needs the triples dropped down the forks 10~14mm (although +25mm of ride-height on the HRC shock really makes it superb), but the MC18R5/6K really needs that F3 linkage too.
The MC18 Mk1 by comparison is extremely lazy at 24°/90mm, plus an additional 15mm of wheelbase!
I run the shortest chain I can too (er... because I can't count for one reason! ) so my '21 really is "nose down, ass up, short as it can be"... just how I like my dancing girls! _________________ Andy.

Thank you very much all you NSR Guru's ! I a 5'4" Japanese born in the US and have been riding nothing but Honda's. Even drag raced CBX's when 95lbs. Road raced VFR 750 at 115lbs. Now at 125lbs and want to be on a NSR !
The bike I have available to me is a MC21 with only 6300km and all stock and sitting around collecting dust.
Now I am getting the money to make the offer to him.

You start with an advantage over us 'round eyes' as the bike was designed and built more with the oriental frame in mind than the generally larger (read lardier ) western one. You should feel right at home I'd think.
