NSR 500 Bodywork 97/98 available

Mon Feb 18, 2008 9:03 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I thought that I would mention that I have recently aquired the moulds which made the bodywork for Mick Doohans NSR500 back in 97-98.
If you're building a special and want the proper bodywork let me know.
I will point out though that it is quite a big bodykit, the seat alone must be a good few feet long!!

I have the moulds for,
Top fairing
Belly Pan
Seat unit

These were originally made in pre-preg carbon fiber/kevlar, with nomex reinforcement hence the seat unit being self suporting. I am sure though with enough thought they could be adapted to fit on some nice specials.

Some of you will know that as well as having quite a few strokers my business is motorcylce bodywork (www.bikestyleuk.com) website is about 3 years out of date Embarassed so if you have any questions you are talking to the right person.

As soon as I get time to make a set I will post some pics. Very Happy

Sigh... In my book, that is the most superb 2-stroke, EVER!!!

I know there were NSR's and other lesser 500's after that, but nothing had ever dominated like it before or since. I doubt anything will ever dominate like Doohan and the NSR again either.

Agreed. That bodywork scaled down to fit the 250 would be nice. Laughing

Russell, would you consider making OEM pattern race bodywork? What would a minimum order involve to get the ball rolling?

I know a couple of guys have bought OEM pattern stuff from abroad recently for use racing. It's not particularly cheap, but it is good quality. I have seen your bodywork and think it's easily on a level, if not better than more expensive stuff from the USA and elsewhere, and would personally prefer to have money spent within the UK than sending it abroad all the time!

I would much prefer to make parts for the 250's, the shapes of the 600/1000etc is getting very extreme, you have to be a magician to fit in the moulds!!!! I spent a few weeks over Xmas making moulds for my TZ250 B, They will be really nice when finished. At the moment my hands are tied with the start of the racing season and everyone wanting everything yesterday! Things should slow down in a few months though.

What sort of quantity are you thinking? Making the moulds takes a good deal of time, you have to sell a few to re-coupe the tooloing costs.

Keep me posted.

Russ.

That bodywork looks bloody superb, Russ! Shame I don't know of any V4's suitable to fit it to!

Now, if only you could find the moulds to some works NSR500V kit... I know someone who'd jump on a few sets of bodywork then! Wink
