Hi People
I've just bought a MC21, Pretty much in boxes. My first question is in regards as to which engine I should use in it as I Got 3 with it A MC18 engine apparently good condition. MC21 Engine one ****** barrel. MC28sp engine good condition apparently. I've got PRGII An a PRGIII ECU, Will the 28 bolt straight in using the 21Carb's, pipes An ECU??.
No doubt I'll be asking heaps of question's in the week's to come. Cheers in advance.

I reckon the MC28 engine with the flywheel/generstor etc from the 21, that way the ignition will all be sorted.

i'd say go with the mc21 if your average on the spanner cos it'll give you less trouble in the long run when it comes to seeking advice and setting etc. plus you can sell the mc28 bits as a complete engine and i guess someone will be keen to purchase it from you. sell the mc18 aswell and you should have enough cash to buy plenty of working mc21 parts or someone my be willing to give you a swap for the parts needed. if the engine in the mc21 isn't good enough for your needs then maybe the 300 kit will be a better option at a later date when you have the cash.

sadly it's only an opinion...the choice is yours.

If it was me I would go with the MC18 motor and PGM-II electrics.

Just my opinion though too.

Yeah from what I've read some people seem to think the 18 is one of the better engines???. Should i use it with the 18 pipes or are the 21 pipes any better???

I think the '18 is the best engine. not only due to its better porting but its crank and crank cases design.

As for stock pipes, MC18 stock pipes make peak at around 10,800rpm. Stock '21 pipes make peak at 11,000.

If your fitting the motor in a '21 chassis I would go for '21 pipes, if for nothing else but ease of fitting.

Is this a fairly common opinion or is Stephen A MC18 Fiend. LOL

Depends what you want. The MC18 in stock form feels a bit more like your traditional 2-stroke, with a strong pull once the RC Valves open, it also makes really healthy midrange. The MC21 is a much more flatter power curve and hence feels a lot smoother on the road.

The most powerful NSR's have been the MC21's though, once fully tuned. The most powerful MC21's though do use a lot of MC18 engineering.

It won't make a rat's ass to 99.9% of owners though. They all perform pretty much the same until you start throwing a lot of HRC parts at them. Even then, it's not just a case of bolting bits on, but also a lot of machine work.

Now my F3 '18 motor is all built up and ready to go we can see just how close a F3 '21 goes againest a F3 '18. I think they will be really really close.

If I ever get my act sorted and my '16 and '18 Mk2 F3's finished, we'll have a whole suite of them to compare.

Notice how HRC never saw fit to waste much time on the all-show no-go '28!
