It could be done, but the cost of shipping alone would exceed the value. Your better off buying one already here. Second best option is to import it whole. Registration, especially, in CA is always going to be a problem. Your best bet is to buy one allready registered in CA. There was a MC28 for sale in the bay area just a couple weeks ago. Look in the classifieds.

As j911brick said, better off with a complete, titled bike to start with.

If you need parts there are a few internet based company's doing parts including this very site! Also, tygaperformance.com is an excellent resource for all parts nsr. Im sure a bit of phone ringing should source parts from the wreckers, and the classifieds section on this site is a fantastic source too. Ebay has a heap of parts also. These bikes are far from extinct yet, parts obtainable!

hope this helps....

Not sure I entirely agree with the above statements. If your not in a big hurry and are willing to spend the time looking for stuff then it can be done. The advantage of course is, you only have to spend a couple of hundred at a time instead of one big chunk. I have about 90% of the bike I am building and I only have about 1/3 of what these things are selling for right now. However in my case, building the bike up is most of the fun and I am in no hurry because I have other bikes to ride. In the long run, I’m sure I will spend about the same plus my time but it’s not always about the money.....

I can totally agree that building an NSR up is a rewarding and satisying experience, and gives you a whole new appreciation for the machine Cyclenut! Very Happy

However, I would have thought generally that It would be more cost effective to begin with something complete -not sure what they sell for in U.S, but I got my Pentax sp mc21 for $3500 australian ($2606US). I believe I would have paid that amount (going by nsr import wrecker figures) for a pair of mint magteks, a good engine + carbs, and sp suspension.

If you do your homework and can obtain 90% of the bike cheap, then i'd say go for it! I think I've read in earlier threads that due to Califoria air pollution laws, nsr's are quite hard to register in that state. I'm not from America though, so im only speculating.....

Good luck pmai002, let us all know how you go

building

thank you all for you input. to my understanding in the US you can build any automotive vehicle, and register it(much more to it than that). finding a decently affordable NSR in the states is pretty hard to come by. so i've decided to start building my own NSR250 and try to make it street legal.
IF anyone has any information of any compaines, in or out of the US, for chassis and engines please let me know.
thanx. all

I have a set of body work for a MC21 for $1,500 with tank. Ebay. www.redline-ci.com. If I find a set of magteks I'll sell you my wheels as well.
