NS400R

Tue Jun 06, 2006 7:59 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I'm looking at possibly buying an NS400R. The bike looks to be clean with low miles and US title. Can somebody come up with reasons why I would or would not want to buy the bike? Anything special I should look for? The reserve is $5k.

Having just stripped one right down, Carbs get dirty and parts oxidise quickly if left standing, make sure you see it running, oil pump is right at the bottom of the engine and most of the guys ive spoken to say it gets to much oil!!!! atac bolts snap so check these, front caliper sliders sieze easy if standing for a while, they should slide easy, good forks are hard to come by if yours are shot, most other things ive looked at look original and have lasted well!

In the uk this bike might reach £2K tops but more like £1500 they dont hold there value here. is $5000 a good price? in the US?

What is the atac bolt?

I'm not sure about value since there aren't enough around establish value. The seller thinks $5-10K but that is a big range. The fact it has a clear US title increases the value by $500-$1,000, and collectable bikes have been selling for absurd prices in the US.

How about $9,300 for a NC30, and $27K for an RC30?

They probably just got that bike. If you want I can check out the bike since its not that far from my place. The fairing is not in good shape but it has low mileage so i think 5k is cheap.

Mine should be done soon Laughing

I'm curious why one pay $1000.00 MORE for a bike with a 17 character vin just because it has a title?

My mistake. Thought it was a Canadian model. Looks like a bike that should be seen in person before purchased. RVT2002 is very kind to offer an inspection - take him up on it! Wonder if it's titled as a NSR400...

Your bike is Loookin' goood! Where did you get the forks?

Don't go out of your way, but if you happen to be in the nieghborhood maybe you could pop your head in and take a peak. I'll be in Bloomington tomorrow I may try to get up there myself if I can work it in.

I think this is an interesting bike, but I'm not sure I want it as much as a NC30 or RC30, or even an MC28 or RS250. If I bought it I probably wouldn't pay much more over the $5k reserve.

What he said... When guys used to offer titling services the cost was about $400-$700, and its even harder to do now.

The guy tells me its a legit unmarked title: not rebuilt. salvage, etc...

Aren't pistons being made in the aftermarket?
