Orange Peel Pistons?

Fri Jun 02, 2006 7:23 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Started stripping the NS4 today, The Cylinders look to be in good order, and the heads like wise, But the piston crown is like an orange peel effect is this normal? its on oll 3 pistons? and burn/air fuel ratio from plug etc all looks good, is this just wear and tear on what could be old pistons or is it something else??

describe what you mean by orange peal? Are you saying the carbon is flaking off, or are your refering to the casting finish?

not carbon, there quite clean i can see the top of the piston surface, and its that surface, (the Metal) that looks orange peel, i would have said detonation but the heads and plugs look fine!
