Plastic body work repair

Sat Apr 15, 2006 3:21 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hey guys,
I recently got a NSR 50 it had a few cracks and a couple whooper holes. I searched everywhere for something to put the parts back together but superglue and every other type of glue would not hold it together.

I ended up getting some wire aluminum mesh which was supposed to glue to the plastic but of course that glue didn’t work either in a but of frustration I heated up the aluminum and pressed it into place after the mesh was mounded I filled the rest with normal plastic filler and it works excellent. The mesh ends up fully moulding into the plastic making an extremely strong bond.

Just though I'ed let you all know in case you come across the same problem

Hey gents,
I have a feeling that this product cant be shipped uk to australia.... Sad

Does any australians out there know of a local place to aquire such a product?
OR
Does anybody know what the chemicals are to make my own makeshift kit?

Any info would be highly apreciated!
Cheers!
Lachlan

I solved my own problem by practising on an old scrap fairing, but I thought i'd write it up as a reference for anyone needing to do a repair in the future.

I had a crack about 3-4cm's long on my LH fairing, I cleaned it up with a razor blade and some 800 wet and dry. I wiped the crack down with prep wash and let it stand for 10 minutes and blew it dry with an airline.
I used "selleys supa glue" along the sides of the crack and applied hand force to the crack for about 30 seconds then wiped off the excess.

This by itself is *fairly* strong but not like welding it, it will still come apart with enough force, so i reinforced the inside of the fairing with automotive bog (other countries call it bondo). Bogged and sanded the outside of the fairing as well. Just laid a coat of 2k over it, and you cannot tell a repair has been made, it is also now very strong and will not come apart with my hand force.

Hope this helps someone in the future........
