R suspension V's SE/SP Suspension

Tue May 02, 2006 6:03 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I have some se/sp suspesion on the way, But im wondering if the se/sp stuff is stiffer, Of course i could just try it and find out. I did have a go on a bike with SE/SP stuff but diddnt try to wang it round corners as it wasmy first ride on a diffrent bike. Anyway, My R suspesion (for 16years old) is pretty good the front forks are good but the rear always seemd under sprung (could be cause im a fat git) is the se/sp rear unit any better/stiffer? i may wack a new spring on it if nessesary. I have also heard that putting the R spring onto the sp/se rear is a good move but if its undersprung will this not have the same effect? comments please Thanks

I think you'll still find the new forks pretty soft... Try changing the fork oil for 10wt 1st of all and see how you like that.

I didnt like the feel of my 18 R forks so after some advice from Stephen RC45 I added some more fork oil as the amount Honda say to use is set around a 8 stone Jap rider and i'm 14 stone Shocked ,so after playing around the best result I found was to add 75cc to each leg,They now feel spot on Cool

Thanks for the tips guys, but its the rear im concerned with, if the spring rate on the SE/SP is the same as the r im guessing ill need to get a new spring, Im told the front forks have had new oil, im sure they will be okay. Like i say i had no issues with the front just the rear.. MMMM

I think it's safe to say, that unless you are built like Pedrosa, all the NSR's would benefit from a re-spring for the average Brit lager gut.
Re-damping [be it valving or air gap adjustments] should also give good results, as already posted.
Personally, I don't hold that the OE adjustment range on the SP/SE suspension is of much benefit to a fat Brit - given that it's set up for 9 stone piss wet through. Rolling Eyes

sounds like a K-Tech job...... Oh well may have to wait before i stick it on then... Sad i thought it might be the case, My NC30 needed a rear soring when i got that, they used a cbr600 spring and it transformed the bike!!!.... mmmm wonder if a cbr spring will fit? could be a cheap upgrade!!!

what I did with the rear of my 18 ( it was too soft and seemed too low) was to use some 21 shock linkage plates,I turned the plates around so that the distance between were the lower part of the shock bolts on and were the tie rod bolts on was at its greatest and it has made a big difference to the ride height and how stiff the shock is,I cant get over how well it now handles.
There is a template on this site for a 18 F3 shock linkage plates,I know thats no help but if you look at template you could draw you own,Just increase the distance between the lower bolt hole and the other 2 then get some made up.
