Possible Forum Updates...

Thu Dec 08, 2005 7:14 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hello Everyone!

OK, we're considering updates for the entire Site at the moment, but I would like to hear opinions regarding the Forum.

There have been grumbles lately about the search facility returning too many results, which I can understand as the database is getting pretty large now! (Thank you all for your contributions!! Smile)

Anyway, we are considering splitting the Discussion Forum into 2 or 3 sections. When we first started out, a single forum was ideal, but now think the posts would possibly benefit from being catagorised.

The format would still be kept simple, so navigation is kept to a minimum, but we think "ENGINE", "CHASSIS (encompassing bodywork)", and possibly "GENERAL DISCUSSION" areas will allow both easier access to relevant information, and the General Discussion will allow a wider range of topics to be debated that aren't necessarily bike based, but things you would like opinions on from fellow members.

We aren't looking to take over the world, and aren't going out looking to compete with 400 Grey Bike or any other Site, but we know Forum readers have other bikes, cars, and interests that they are keen to share and discuss with one-another.

Please vote in the poll, and also post you comments below. The Forum and Site needs to develop, and the development needs to be based on what you guys want!

We'll run the poll until Christmas, and then implement any changes in the New Year for a trial period. If it works, then it'll stay, but if you don't like it, we'll revert to the current layout.

Thank you for reading and taking part.

I haven't been a member for that long, and can i point out it's great that there is an NSR based forum in the world! But i could never understand why there were very few forums on the board.

I think a general discussion forum would be great as it would give members a place to chat about other mutual interests & allow people to get to know each other better. And that can only be positive for the NSR community Very Happy

Thaks for all the hard work Andy Cool

I think it's a fantastic idea to refine the topics/forum. I wouldn't 'soil' our NSR's though amongst talk of OTHER 2-strokes... Twisted Evil That has got to be a separate forum!

Doing a great job Andy!

wITH ONE FORUM ITS NICE, BUT WITH SEVERAL ITS ALMOST NECCESSARY TO HAVE A WAY OF SEING IF THERE ARE ANY NEW POSTS AND WHICH ONES , SINCE LAST LOGIN.

OK I hit the wrong buttons, but am too tired to write it again. Crying or Very sad

PS I like the possibility to log in automatically.

PPS I don't like the permanent posts on top, couldn't they be changed to text somewhere on the site itself ?

Um, there is a way. When you come to the main forum page (http://www.nsr250.net/forums), up in the top section there is a link to "View posts since last visit".

I do try and keep the "sticky" and "announcement" posts to a minimum.

Guys, don't forget to thank Charles for all his efforts too. He keeps the "behind the scenes" part of the Forum running smoothly while I just bask in the glory!! Smile

When the Forum was initially opened, the idea was to keep all the information focussed; hence just the two catagories, Discussion and Classifieds. As I mentioned in my opening post, it's now becomming difficult to obtain refined search results for a start, so increasing the number of catagories gives the opportunity to search posts more relevant to a particular topic.

Personally I love the way this site is so simple. I am on about 5 boards, and this is by far the easiest to use. One place, and all discussion is there.

Maybe it's because I log on ten times a day, but I never find theres more than 10 topics to read, so breaking it into sections wouldn't benefit ME personally.

However, I can see that an improved search facility would help remove some of the same questions coming up again and again. I think we have THREE topics all asking about tyres this week alone!

Begs the question, do many people actually use the search before asking?

Maybe the 'Search' button could be made more prominent...

Just my opinions of course...

This website is awesome. Thanks to Andy and all the "behind the scenes " guys for all the hard work. This site has helped fuel my addiction which is NSR.

big thanks to Andy and Charles for all their hard work and for keeping me sane whilst on the relentlesss day by day grind of work.
(i get so upset when i log in to find there are no new posts Crying or Very sad )

I say keep it as it is, Hell we get people listing "for Sales" in the discussion and discussion in the For Sales already, and thats with 2 very simple forums, what chance do we stand if we have 3 or 4?? lol we will be having fork rebuild talk in engine rebuild just because they both involve oil!

Thanks Andy and Charles for all the hard work you guys put into NSR World.

I voted to leave it the same. I check the site on a daily basis. I find that there is never more than 10 or so posts. I personally don't care if the same questions get asked over and over. It keeps everyone on this forum talking (typing) Laughing

There are only two things I would like to see added to this site. A spell checker and an easier way to post pics. I'm sure that both of those are a big pain in the ass.
