Engine Removal :S

Fri Mar 31, 2006 4:34 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

hi guys,
i have a feeling my nsr crankshaft bearings are disintegrating Sad so im thinking ill get a new motor in the bike as the current one has over 40000kms on it anyway.

anyway, im seeking advice on how to go about detaching the gear linkages from the motor???? Confused theyre flimsy looking thinks and i dont really want to find out the hard way of what not to do. everything else is off the motor and i just need this off to get the thing out of the bike.

cheers, tim

ok not to worry i found a way already, but im quite sure it was the wrong way as it included undoing the whole footpeg assembly and roating it so ont of the threaded bolts came out.... Razz

now thats done and ive taken out three engine bolts (2 big, one small) but still my engine isnt falling out?? though it is moving in the frame. Is there something ive missed thats holding it in still? it seems to rotate about an axis approx. where the bottom rear long engine bolt was.. gettting dark plus im buggered after uni today so ill leave it for now, but if anyone knows any tricks to help get this thing out please let me know.

Thanks,
Tim

It will be the main drive gear attached to the chain, you have to unbolt it. There are funny washers on there with tabs that you have to bend so don't worry if you have to be a bit rough with it.

nah its not that, but thanks for the input. I think it might just need a tap with a rubber mallot or something...
btw is catching the motor in a milk crate with something soft inside a bad idea? it seems heavier than i initially thought Razz

Cheers tim Very Happy
